Dal Tadka is a North Indian Dal (Lentil) recipe. Even though it is the most common dish in Indian cuisine, it enjoys an iconic place due to its distinct taste and aroma. In terms of the creaminess and fragrance of Dal Tadka, it is simply made from lentils mixed with spices, and those ingredients are most adaptable from Indian kitchen. Dal tadka is just an irresistible dish ever in common among Indians and it is also a rich source of vegetarian protein that can help you to fill up healthily. In addition, there are several types of dals according to dal preparation in each region but here is the recipe of Dal Tadka for you to give it a try.

Step 1
To make this delicious Dal Tadka recipe, add moong dal in a pressure cooker. Add water and heat it over medium flame. Cook the dal for around 30 minutes or until it gets quite mushy. After it's done, bring the flame to low and stir occasionally in between.
Step 2
Now add oil in a pan and heat it over medium flame. Once the oil is sufficiently hot, add mustard seeds and dried red chilli in the pan. Once the seeds start to splutter, add asafoetida, turmeric, red chilli powder, ginger paste, garlic, fenugreek seeds, cumin seed, curry leaves, green chillies and chopped onions.
Step 3
Once the onions turn slightly pinkish in hue, add the chopped tomatoes in the pan and fry them along with the mixture for around 5-6 minutes on low-medium. Once done, add in the mushy dal in the mixture. Then add salt as per your taste and stir well.
Step 4
Simmer the dal on low-medium flame for 10 minutes or until the tomatoes become tender. Keep stirring occasionally. After few minutes, switch off the flame and transfer the dal in a serving bowl. Dal Tadka is ready to be served.
Pair it with rice or chapatis along with salad of your choice. You can also serve it with some crisp potato bites and raita.
